Opinions on Luna
J.K. Rowling
"I don't know where she came from but I really like Luna - really fun to write.
She's slightly out of step in many ways but she's the anti-Hermione. Hermione's so
logical and inflexible in so many ways and Luna is likely to believe 10 impossible
things before breakfast ..."

"I see Neville and Luna as very different kinds of people and while they share a certain
isolation within Hogwarts, I don't think that’s enough to foster true love - friendship,
perhaps, although I think that Neville would always find Luna's wilder flights of fancy
alarming."

"My favourite new character is Luna - I am very fond of her."
- Edinburgh Book Festival, 15 August 2004
"I know what I've enjoyed writing – you know Luna's commentary during the Quidditch match?
[Laughter.] It was that. I really enjoyed doing that. Actually I really enjoyed doing that."
"And then I had this moment of blinding inspiration. I thought, Luna’s going to commentate,
and that was just a gift. It’s the kind of commentary I’d do on a sports match because I'm
— [laughs]. Anyway yeah, it was that."
"I love Luna, I really love Luna."
"One of the ways in which I tried to show that Harry has done a lot of growing up — in
'Phoenix,' remember when Cho comes into the compartment, and he thinks, ‘I wish I could have
been discovered sitting with better people,’ basically? He's with Luna and Neville. So
literally the identical thing happens in “Prince,” and he's with Luna and Neville again, but
this time, he has grown up, and as far as he's concerned he is with two of the coolest
people on the train."

"I always wanted to be Luna. She has been my favourite character since she was introduced in
the fifth book and it was always a dream to play her."
"I feel very close to Luna so acting her was just natural."
"She's such an amazing character and I really enjoy being her. I feel comfortable. And I want
to do her character justice. And, I promise to all Luna fans that I will stay completely
true to her because she deserves no less."
"Sometimes, the other characters are too normal and then you start to be brought back to
reality but then Luna shows up and she is just so funny and cool and honest and slightly mad
and she's all that matters. She is 100% true. She puts on no shows, because she is so
comfortable with herself.
She's not rebelling and being all consciously 'I'm proud of me'- she's just being how
she's meant to be. It doesn't occur to her that she's different, because she's not.
Most people have their masks that they wear for other people so that they'll fit in and be
'cool' but she doesn't and that is what 'cool' is. She is also completely independent.
She has no friends and while she would like them, she doesn't brood on it because she can
support herself. Most people would be unhappy without their friends.
They need them for support and feel insecure without them but because Luna is so comfortable
with herself, this doesn't bother her. She is the perfect role model."

Daniel Radcliffe
[upon being asked who Harry will end up with]
"Oh, I think Luna, probably. By the end, I think, Luna Lovegood, definitely. Obviously in
this one it’s probably Cho Chang, but in the fifth book we all know that goes horribly
wrong. So, I think ultimately Luna Lovegood would be my prediction."
